8 People With Hobbies That Truly Deserve Applause

Posted on August 31, 2026

Hobbies sirf waqt guzarnay ka zariya nahi hotin. Kabhi ye stress kam karti hain, kabhi humein kuch naya sikhati hain, aur kabhi ek simple hobby aage chal kar earning ka source bhi ban jati hai.

Kisi ko cooking pasand hai, kisi ko knitting, aur kuch log aisi unusual cheezen banana pasand karte hain jo dekh kar hum bas muskura dete hain.

Story 1: The Unexpected Hobby

I had recently started seeing a man, and things between us were moving pretty quickly. One day, he invited me over.

While washing my hands, I realized there wasn’t a towel in the bathroom. I opened a nearby cupboard looking for one—and found a bra.

Naturally, I had questions.

He eventually explained that he designed and made custom bras himself. At first, I honestly didn’t know what to think.

Then he showed me his little workshop, the mannequins, and all the equipment he used.

Suddenly, it didn’t seem strange anymore. In fact, I was impressed by how seriously he had turned his unusual hobby into a craft.

We eventually went our separate ways, but his hobby definitely wasn’t the reason.

Story 2: Grandma’s New Adventure

My 78-year-old neighbor lives by herself. She’s gentle, quiet, and keeps mostly to herself.

One day, I noticed a young man visiting her regularly.

That alone wasn’t unusual. But whenever he came over, I occasionally heard loud noises and what sounded like someone shouting.

I became concerned and finally knocked on her door.

There was complete silence.

Then the door opened.

Standing there was my elderly neighbor wearing a karate uniform!

It turned out she’d decided to learn martial arts just for fun. The young man was her instructor, teaching her basic movements, stances, and exercises.

She had simply decided that getting older didn’t mean she had to stop trying new things.

Story 3: A Hobby Led to a Friendship

I was riding the train home from work one evening while crocheting a sweater.

It’s something I enjoy doing because it keeps my hands busy and helps me relax.

After a while, I noticed the man sitting beside me kept looking at what I was making. He gradually leaned closer, and I started wondering what was going on.

Then I noticed the book in his hands.

It was a guide to knitting.

He wasn’t being creepy at all. He was simply interested in what I was making because he enjoyed similar crafts.

We started talking, discovered we had several things in common, and eventually became friends.

We’re still in touch today.

Story 4: A Very Unusual Birthday Request

Before my granddaughter’s fifth birthday, my daughter-in-law called me.

She told me her daughter had made a rather unusual birthday request.

She wanted a bat—but not a frightening one. She wanted something cute and a little spooky.

They couldn’t find anything suitable in stores, so my daughter-in-law asked whether I could make something myself.

I accepted the challenge.

And this is what I came up with.

Sometimes the strangest requests lead to the most fun creative projects.

Story 5: My Family’s Wild Camping Tradition

My entire family loves camping.

Every summer, practically everyone joins in—parents, grandparents, siblings, spouses, cousins, and children.

The trips can last for weeks.

I actually love being outdoors. I enjoy campfires, cooking outside, beautiful scenery, and being away from the city.

But camping with my family somehow turns into an adventure every single time.

We’ve encountered wild animals.

We’ve had boats tip over in rough water.

We’ve lost supplies in rivers.

We’ve woken up to heavy rain with our tent almost floating away.

I’ve even returned home with a tick bite.

Every trip ends with me thinking, “That’s it. Never again.”

Then the next summer arrives.

I start remembering the beautiful views, the funny moments, and the stories we collected.

And somehow I find myself packing another backpack.

Story 6: Simple Things I Enjoy

My favorite way to relax is pretty simple: I read and knit.

Sometimes I return to books I loved when I was younger because they bring back good memories.

I also enjoy crocheting.

A while ago, I bought a large amount of yarn, thinking I’d use it quickly.

Well… most of it is still sitting there waiting for me!

Apparently, I bought enough yarn to keep my hobby going for quite some time.

Story 7: A Hobby Became a Career

About ten years ago, a friend asked me to write a play.

I wrote it, but eventually she didn’t need it anymore.

Instead of letting the script sit in a drawer, I entered it into a competition.

To my surprise, I won.

That one decision changed everything.

My plays eventually made it onto theater stages, and I now have another production getting ready for its premiere.

It isn’t my biggest source of income—I earn much more from my regular office job.

But knowing that something I wrote is being performed in a theater is an incredible feeling.

And Sometimes…

The best hobbies don’t have to be unusual or profitable.

I enjoy activities that make everyday life feel more meaningful—organizing things, experimenting with different healthy dishes, learning new skills, and taking time for activities that help me feel balanced.

For me, a hobby is worthwhile if it makes life a little more enjoyable.

And sometimes, the simplest hobbies become the memories we treasure most.

Bonus twist: I once picked up something my “boyfriend” had left behind and asked what it was supposed to be.

He casually replied, “Just don’t get it dirty. I need to deliver it to a customer.”

That’s when I realized his hobby was a lot more serious than I had imagined.
