Former President Donald Trump recently described how strongly Melania Trump reacted after watching the July 2024 shooting at his campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.
During an interview with Fox News host Laura Ingraham, Trump said Melania had watched the incident unfold live and was deeply shaken by what she saw. He explained that when he fell after being struck in the ear, she initially feared the worst.
Trump said Melania has found the incident difficult to discuss, adding that he understood why the experience remained upsetting for her.
The comments came as officials continued examining the security failures surrounding the July 13, 2024, attack. Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle later resigned following congressional scrutiny, and Ronald Rowe became acting director. Rowe subsequently acknowledged significant communication and security problems surrounding the rally.
The shooting left Trump injured, killed rally attendee Corey Comperatore, and critically wounded two other people. Investigations into the security response continued afterward.
