I’m Divorcing My Husband Over His Farts — And Everyone Thinks I’m the “Perfect Wife”

Posted on August 29, 2026

Anyway, that is the story of why I am divorcing my husband over farts. On the surface level, I know it sounds like it’s just about farts and then I’m just a really shallow wife, but I think it’s actually so much deeper. It’s just hard to explain how.

Before anyone calls me dramatic, selfish, or ridiculous, please hear me out.

Yes, the reason sounds completely insane.

And honestly? If I hadn’t lived through it myself, I probably wouldn’t believe it either.

A quick update before the story: my husband has apparently shared his own version of events online. I’m not linking it because I don’t want to add more fuel to the situation. If you happen to come across it, just remember that his version may be a little more dramatic than reality.

Now, here’s what actually happened.

When we first started dating, I didn’t spend a huge amount of time with him at night. He usually stayed at my place, and I kept my kitchen pretty simple. Also, I had temporarily lost my sense of smell after getting sick, which, looking back, is almost unbelievably important to this story.

Eventually, my sense of smell returned.

And after we got married, I discovered a side of my husband that I had never fully experienced before.

Late-night eating became his favorite hobby.

I’m talking about huge amounts of greasy food, cheese, dairy, candy, chips, fast food—you name it. He could eat a full dinner and then, hours later, go out and buy enough food for what looked like another family.

At first, I ignored the occasional bad smell.

Everyone farts. It happens.

But this became something else entirely.

Night after night, the smell became so overwhelming that I genuinely started feeling sick. I’m not talking about a normal unpleasant odor. I’m talking about the kind of smell that makes you immediately want to leave the room.

Eventually, I stopped sleeping in our bedroom.

I started using fans, air conditioning, closed doors, and anything else I could think of just to get some rest. I even began sleeping in another room because I couldn’t handle being trapped in the bedroom all night.

What made things worse was that this wasn’t an accident he felt embarrassed about.

I repeatedly asked him to consider changing what he ate at night. I suggested cutting back on some of the heavy dairy and greasy foods. I offered to cook lighter meals. I bought different products that might help his digestion and encouraged him to speak with a doctor.

He had absolutely no interest.

He openly admitted that his eating habits were probably causing the problem.

But then he told me something I still can’t believe I’m repeating.

He actually enjoyed farting.

Not just casually.

He said he enjoyed the physical sensation enough that he didn’t want to change his habits, even though he knew how badly it was affecting me.

That was the moment I realized this wasn’t really about farts anymore.

I had spent months changing my entire life around his choices. I couldn’t comfortably sleep in my own bedroom. I couldn’t work there peacefully either. I was constantly trying to find solutions while he refused to make even a small compromise.

I suggested doctors.

He refused.

I suggested healthier food.

He preferred fast food.

I bought things that might help.

He barely used them.

I tried to explain how seriously this was affecting me.

He basically told me that he was happy with his lifestyle and had no intention of changing it.

At one point, I realized I was putting more effort into fixing the situation than the person actually causing it.

And that hurt.

I don’t hate him for liking food.

I don’t care about his weight.

I don’t expect anyone to be perfect.

But a marriage requires compromise.

What broke me was hearing, in one way or another, that his comfort mattered more to him than mine.

So yes, technically, I’m divorcing my husband because of his farts.

But the truth is deeper than that.

I’m leaving because I felt unheard.

I felt dismissed.

I felt like I was expected to completely rearrange my life while he refused to make even the smallest adjustment.

The farts were just the most ridiculous symptom of a much bigger problem.

And apparently, that’s the hill our marriage ended on.
